Things You Should Be Doing to Take Care of Your Mouth

Good oral hygiene is important to maintain optimum overall health and well-being in the long run. Poor oral hygiene can contribute to low self-esteem and undesirable life situations. That is why you need to maintain proper oral hygiene at all times. You don't need excessive time and expensive oral hygiene instruments to maintain good oral hygiene. A daily brushing and flossing routine while avoiding simple sugars can go a long way to improve your oral hygiene. This article provides information on how to take care of your tongue, teeth, and gums with simple practices.

Brushing

Brushing is the most important practice to clean your teeth and prevent the building up of plaque. Dental experts recommend brushing your teeth with a fluoridated toothpaste to reduce the build-up of plaque. You should brush at least two minutes at a time and twice a day for best results. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush because they are gentle on the teeth and gums. Brush at a 45-degree angle to the gumline to brush your teeth properly. Use small circular and gentle back-forth motions to brush all the surfaces of your teeth. Don’t use a scrubbing motion to avoid heavy force applied on the teeth and your gums. Avoid eating anything for at least 30 minutes after brushing to keep the mouth clean. Make sure you replace the toothbrush every three months. Using a good mouthwash is one of the best ways to prevent the build-up of debris in your mouth.

Flossing

Daily flossing will help remove plaque and food particles between the teeth. These are the areas where your brush cannot reach. The area beneath the gum line and the tight spaces between the teeth are vulnerable to plaque buildup over time. If you don't floss these areas regularly, the plaque can turn to tartar and result in tooth and gum problems in the long run. Improper flossing can damage the teeth and gums. You should use about 18-24 inches of dental floss for the job. Wind most of the floss around both of your middle fingers and leave about 2 inches of floss to floss the teeth. Place the floss in between two teeth & gently glide it up and down. Rub the floss against both sides of each tooth. Don't glide the dental floss into the gums since it can damage your gums.

Tongue Scraping

Tongue scrapers can effectively reduce the number of bacteria and odours in your mouth. On the other hand, removing the coating on top of your tongue helps improve your ability to taste your food. The Medi Grade Tongue Scraper is made from 100% pure copper material. It effectively cleans the entire top and side surfaces of the tongue. The device is designed for comfort and ease of use. It is great for both adults and kids.
