12 Unhealthy Habits You Should Break this Holiday Season

The holiday season is a wonderful time to connect with loved ones and focus on the things that really matter. Because things can be harried during the holidays, however, it's easy to fall into bad habits. Make a point of breaking these bad habits and replacing them with new, healthy habits.

  1. Overeating

It's okay to occasionally indulge during the holidays, but don't overdo it. Make a point of eating healthy meals and reasonable portions. If you're planning on enjoying a big meal later on, eat small meals earlier in the day.

  1. Drinking Everything Except Water

Many adults are chronically dehydrated. You need fluids that aren't coffee, juice, and alcohol. Carry a water bottle with you and make a point of drinking water throughout the day.

  1. Avoiding Exercise

It can be hard to find the motivation to exercise, especially when you work long hours. Try to find enjoyable ways to get exercise. You could take up cycling or go for a walk in the evening. Find ways to get your body moving.

  1. Being Lazy About Dental Hygiene

Simply brushing your teeth isn't enough to maintain a healthy smile. You should make sure that you're cleaning your gums, your tongue, and getting rid of any food that's caught between your teeth. You may want to invest in a tongue scraper so that you can keep your breath fresh. (

  1. Not Taking Sleep Seriously

Adults should be getting at least seven hours of sleep each night. Try to go to bed at the same time every night and wake up at the same time each day.

  1. Being Careless About Germs

Don't ever skip on washing your hands, and take time to sanitize surfaces. If you're not careful about germs, you could wind up falling ill.

  1. Not Being Honest About Your Feelings

You don't have to pretend to be jolly during the holidays. Instead of bottling up your emotions, you should be open about what you're feeling. You may want to consider talking with a therapist.

  1. Constant Complaining

While you don't have to hide your feelings, you should try to avoid complaining too much. A negative mindset can diminish your ability to think and reason. Try to remember the things you're grateful for.

  1. Being Glued to Your Phone

When you spend all your time on your phone, you can't fully engage with the people around you. You don't have to give up your phone entirely, but you should unplug from time to time. Try to appreciate what's happening at the moment.

  1. Spending All Your Money

Spending your money immediately can put you in a bad financial situation. Create a financial plan that you can stick to. Start saving money so that you'll have funds when you need them.

  1. Obsessing Over the Little Things

Don't spend too much worrying about the things you can't change. Instead, put your attention towards the things you do have control over.

  1. Agreeing to Everything

There's nothing wrong with telling people no. You shouldn't hesitate to do things that are important to you, but if you have too much on your plate, you should feel free to turn things down.

Final Thoughts

Holidays are the time to have fun and recharge your battery for the year ahead. Make use of your precious time by breaking some of your bad habits.
